Upon entering Nirvana Memorial Garden Singapore, Block A – Ju Xian Dian, you will be greeted by a solemn, three-story statue of Amitabha Buddha. This columbarium hall is designed around the Five Elements of Feng Shui, which are incorporated as follows:

This columbarium includes three designated Free Thinker Suites, each designed for individuals of Christian, Catholic, or Free Thinker beliefs and practices. Each suite boasts a unique design, allowing bereaved families—or individuals planning their own funeral in advance—to choose the hall that best suits their preferences.

Ji Ling Services (49 days) 安灵

Nirvana Memorial Garden Singapore offers a complimentary 49-day An-Ling service for customers who have purchased a niche at Nirvana. During this period, two vegetarian meals and tea will be provided daily for the ancestors. Our staff will present joss sticks in the An Ling Room and pray on behalf of the family members, requesting the ancestors to partake in the meals when breakfast and lunch are served.

What is a Columbarium Niche?

A columbarium niche is a compartment in a columbarium that holds a cremation urn and serves as a final resting place for a person’s ashes.

What is the burial policy in Singapore?

With effect from 1 November 1998, the burial period for all graves will be limited to 15 years. At the end of 15 years, the graves will be exhumed. For those whose religions permit cremation, the exhumed remains will be cremated and stored in columbarium niches. Where burial is mandated by religion, the exhumed remains will be re-buried in smaller individual plots.

Can foreigners be buried in Singapore?

Foreigners are allowed to be buried in Singapore only if the deceased persons have immediate next-of-kin (parents, spouse, children only) who are Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents. Prior written permission must be obtained from the National Environment Agency.

What are the different methods of laying a loved one to rest in Singapore?

In Singapore, loved ones can be laid to rest through columbarium burial (private or Government, ground burial, in-land ash scattering, or sea burial.

What is the difference between public and private columbariums in Singapore?

  • Niche Fees (Government Columbarium):
    • Standard niche (~2 urns): $500*
    • Family niche (~4 urns): $900*
      *Niches are allocated sequentially. A $250 fee applies for selecting a specific location.
  • Additional Costs:
    • Marble plaques can range from $800 onwards.

What do the levels in a columbarium represent?

  • Levels 7, 8, 9: Symbolise utmost respect; prayers are offered with heads raised. (德高望重)
  • Levels 1, 2: Represent filial piety, requiring one to kneel for prayers. (孝顺位)
  • Level 3: Known as the wealth level as it close to our stomach; ancestors will bless us with fortune to fill our stomach. (财位)
  • Levels 3A, 5, 6: Positioned at eye and heart levels, symbolising closeness to loved ones. (视线位)
